Requirements to Become a CNA in New York
Currently, the training program requirement for aspiring CNAs is the completion of at least 75 hours of classroom lectures and clinical experience. Common topics taught include daily living assistance, taking vital signs, computer skills, and communications.
After completing the required amount of training, CNA candidates must pass the New York CNA Competency Exam, which has two sections: a clinical evaluation and a written exam.
After passing the exam, CNAs are issued unique registry numbers. These numbers are kept on file by the New York Nurse Aide Registry and are available to the public.
